AP Physics
1.3 credits, 8 periods per cycle all year
AP Physics (Calculus-Based): Basic Info
12th Grade (or 11th with department approval)
Description: This course is designed for the student pursuing a career in engineering or science. The subject matter is principally mechanics, electricity, and magnetism, with approximately equal emphasis on these areas. Strong emphasis is placed on solving a variety of challenging problems, some requiring calculus. There is emphasis on analysis in the laboratory as well as in the classroom. A summer assignment will be given. Students are expected to take the AP exam in the spring.
Prerequisites:
min 87% in Physics
should have completed or are concurrently taking AP Calculus AB

Convenient Scheduling:
Some students accelerate Precalculus over the summer in order to take AP Calc AB concurrently with AP Physics and fulfill the math requirement-- useful if looking for a career in engineering or design.

Some students accelerate Physics over the summer to take AP Physics, looking for a more challenging physics course to spend the year on.
Career Clusters:
Engineering, Manufacturing, and Technology
Would you like to get paid to build the things people use every day? Are you good working with your hands? Can you figure out how a machine works? Are you detail-oriented? Do you want to know how things work, or enjoy solving problems?
Ex. Aerospace Engineering Technicians, Architects, Construction Managers, Electrical Engineers, Environmental Scientists, Machinists, Robotics Engineers, etc.
Common Progressions:
What are my options after taking AP Physics? (if you're not graduating yet)
So many options. Anatomy, Oceanography, Hydroponic Farming-- go check it out!
AP Biology, AP Environmental, and AP Chemistry can all be good options if you haven't taken them yet.
