Below are some volunteering opportunities that the club members have narrowed down to focus on STEM related activities. This is by no means the only kinds of volunteering offered by the Methacton community, but it does give you a brief list. We encourage that you reach out to friends, family, and even do your own research to find more opportunities in the community!!
Girls Inc of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey
This organization aims on introducing Stem to girls early and fast including coding, environmental science, civil engineering, robotics and much more. So as they inspire girls to take part in STEM, they are also helping them navigate potential roadblocks to success. There are various programs that are currently virtual. RSVP
RSVP aims to help the lives of other people in the local community by focusing on education and supporting non-profits through online volunteering programs. They have 3 volunteering programs: Wellness, Education and Outreach and Community Support. TeensGive
TeensGive is a virtual volunteering opportunity for students who would like to interact and teach grades below high school. This gives a chance for students to get better at communication skills and have a better exposure towards the STEM field. Become a Digital Advocate for the Red Cross!
The Red Cross Organization has set up a platform for people to interact with one another to become Digital Advocates! Cards for Hospitalized Kids
Making cards for hospitalized children will help you mingle with the hearts of several children who are currently hospitalized. Making cards is a simple but very meaningful and heart-touching task you can do for them. Montgomery County Parks
Parks and trails around Montgomery County are looking for people who can help maintain the gardens, trails, and more. There are opportunities in natural history research, plant removal, leading nature walks if you already have knowledge of plants, birds, and trees. This volunteering opportunity is done IN PERSON and is a great way for people to explore their interests in botany and more on the side of natural sciences (https://www.montcopa.org/358/Volunteer-Opportunities).
Become a Virtual Judge for Technovation
As a Technovation Judge, your job is to offer honest – but supportive – feedback to teams on their ideas and the mobile app prototypes they've built to address problems in their communities. No tech background is required, but this virtual opportunity is a great way to spend your time if you are someone more interested in the tech side of STEM (https://technovationchallenge.org/judge/).
Penn Medicine COVID-19 Donations
To combat the struggles of the pandemic, PennMedicine is asking for the community’s help by donating face masks and personal equipment. Join Medicine Encompassed
Join a committee at Medicine Encompassed, a nonprofit aiming to promote awareness and increase accessibility for those interested in future medical careers through various mediums.
