From letting our members know the diversity of careers in STEM to informing them of opportunities in our community, a popular part of the club is our infamous guest speakers! All of our guest speaker sessions are uploaded to our YouTube channel, so please consider subscribing, liking, and sharing these videos with others who might be interested so that we can further our efforts and raise more awareness for this amazing resource! Jennifer Mintz- Precision Medicine

Jennifer Mintz joins us to talk about clinical research and precision medicine. Precision medicine is a growing field in medicine that studies a patient's genes/proteins to find the best treatment for disease, rather than following a preset protocol. Mrs. Mintz clearly breaks down precision medicine and its applications, and discusses some of the career paths in the field in a presentation targeted for a science-interested high school audience. Jason Skudlarek- Medicinal Chemist

Mr. Skudlarek, our beloved secretary Regan’s dad joins us for a detailed session with a Q&A about his job as a medicinal chemist! He takes us through his journey from high school, to college, to grad school, to now as a senior scientist at Merck West Point. He talks extensively about what his job entails, like his day-to-day responsibilities and some pros and cons about the work environment.

Kyle Kammerle- Physical Therapist

Methacton graduate, Physical Therapist, and Eagles Cheerleader Kyle Kammerle talks about his college experience, both academically and socially. He emphasizes that no matter what path you take out of high school, there are always opportunities to do what you love. Cat Pugh- Ethnobotanist

Cat Pugh is a faculty member of Penn State in Forest Resources, and is currently attending Graduate School there as well. She prioritizes teaching about Ecosystem Science and Management during her teaching “season,” but also engages in a yearly field study “season.” She discusses her career and educational journey that led her to where she is today, and additionally discusses her research about ramps (the plant not the object!) which is what she typically studies during her field study “season.” Cat is willing to answer any questions, contact her at cvp5259@psu.edu.

Jennifer Allwein-
Allied Health Instructor

The Allied Health offered by the North Montco Technical Career Center is designed for students in Grade 12 who are interested in pursuing a career in healthcare. Based in a hospital setting, the program offers hands-on learning where you learn about theory, practice in clinical rotations, and gain exposure to what working alongside certified individuals in a hospital feels like. The instructor of the program, Jennifer Allwein, discusses the specifics of this incredible program in this video so if you are interested please watch the video!

Mary Courtney- Biotechnology Instructor and Research Scientist

The Biotechnology program allows exceptional high school students to conduct real-life research in collaboration with NMTCC. This unique program is designed to prepare college-bound students with both a theoretical and practical (i.e., hands-on) knowledge of state-of-the-art tools used in biotechnology laboratories. If you are interested in this program offered to 11th and 12th graders, Mary Courtney, the instructor of the program, covers more on what the opportunity has to offer as well as elaborates on her journey as a research scientist all the way up to being the Biotechnology Instructor!
